Simple to install and learn it is flexible enough to deliver tangible results in weeks, without needing expensive per seat licenses or costly BI skills. It maximises the return on existing investment in Microsoft technology and adds value at all levels of the organisation. --------------------- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS --------------------- Server Requirements: Windows operating systems with all latest service packs applied: - Windows Server 2003 - Windows Server 2008 - Windows XP (not recommended for production - for evaluation, demo and development only) - Windows 7 (not recommended for production - for evaluation, demo and development only) Pre-requisites with latest service packs applied: - Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 - IIS 5, 6 or 7 - Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2, 2008 or 2005 Microsoft ADOMD.NET 8.0 will be installed automatically during RSinteract setup. See Also: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 System Requirements (http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/system-requirements.aspx) Microsoft SQL Server 2008 System Requirements (http://www.microsoft.com/uk/business/products/sql/evaluate.mspx) ------------------- INSTALLATION TIPS ------------------- The InstallShield installation wizard is designed to provide you with flexibility in the setup of RSinteract. The following is a brief synopsis of each of the wizard's pages. 1. End User License Agreement (EULA) Please read the EULA and click next if you accept the terms stated within. A hard copy can be printed from this screen. 2. Destination Folder The default location for RSinteract is 'C:\Program Files\ICS\RSinteract', to simplify support we recommend that you use this value. 3. IIS Server Configuration This screen allows you to set the virtual directory name for the application and the address of your Reporting Services Server and Reporting Services Manager. However we recommend that you do NOT change the server name for these two Reporting Services addresses. RSinteract can operate when Reporting Services is on a different server but the installer does not fully support this scenario (see stage 6 below) - if you have problems please contact B&D for help. We also recommend that you do not use the name 'localhost' in substitution of the server name as this may cause problems with printing and exporting. By default the virtual directory name is RSinteract so the application will be run from 'http:///RSinteract'. If you wish to move RSinteract to another web site on your machine you can use IIS to replicate the default virtual directory. 5. Database Server to host the Sample Database From here you can choose which instance of SQL Server 2005/2008 the sample database will be installed on. You can also specify the way to authenticate your login to this database for the installation of the sample database - this login is NOT stored and is NOT used by RSinteract. You do not need the sample databases to run RSinteract. 6. Analysis Services to host the Sample Cube From this screen you can choose whether RSinteract will install OLAP samples and specify the Analysis Server to upload the sample cube to. If you specify a remote server the sample database may not upload depending on the version of Microsoft Analysis Services/SQL Server that is installed and your permissions on the target machine. You do not need the sample databases to run RSinteract. If you don't upload the sample cube you will still be able to install and use RSinteract with your own Analysis Services data source (see RSinteract help for information on creating a data source) alternatively you can upload the Analysis Services database manually, it can be found in [InstallDirectory]\Samples\Database. --------------------- FIRST USE AND SETUP --------------------- Once you have installed RSinteract you will need to access it once through Internet Explorer with Administrator permissions so that data source and other system folders can be uploaded to Reporting Services. After this you may use the Administration Utilities on the Start Menu - see the support sire for more details. ----------------- TROUBLESHOOTING ----------------- For up-to-date support please visit http://www.rsinteract.com and click on the Support link on the left. ------------- USER ACCESS ------------- RSinteract inherits security from Windows and Reporting Services. To get started there’s a windows user group on the server called RSinteract Users. This gives read access to the RSinteract website folder, Reporting Services and the RSinteract sample database and sample cube – you may still need to give access to your own reporting databases. ----------- LICENSING ----------- For full details please visit http://www.rsinteract.com and click on the Support link on the left. RSinteract comes with a 30 day evaluation license, if your license expires: 1. Select "Update License" from the RSinteract menu (Start Menu -> Programs -> RSinteract -> Update License). 2. From the screen that appears cut and paste your machine's information (if you have to type this information please make sure you copy the exact capitalisation). 3. Please email us with these values and we'll send you a license key - you can then cut and paste the key back into the "Update License" application. Note, the license key is quite long and complex - you won't be able to type it in. Note: if your current evaluation license is still valid then RSinteract won't reflect the changes until it next restarts (it only stops if nobody uses it for 20 minutes). To restart RSinteract you can open "C:\Program Files\ICS\RSinteract\Website\Web.config" (or equivalent) in notepad and hit save, then open a new browser session for RSinteract. ----------------------------- VISIT RSinteract ON THE WEB ----------------------------- http://www.rsinteract.com - The RSinteract product Home Page ---------------------------------------------------------------- (c)2010 Business & Decision Ltd.
